How do you feel about Launceston?

Tasmania is on the cusp of an exciting time with the visitor economy one of our largest economic drivers and contributors.

But the visitor of today is not the same as the visitor of old. They are not coming to Launceston or Tasmania to take the perfect photo for the wall at home - they are coming to make an emotional connection based on interest, experience and authenticity. We shouldn't view our visitors as tourists; we should embrace them as ‘temporary locals’, and be prepared to share with them the things that make Launceston the place we love to live in.

At the City of Launceston, we are refocusing our efforts on understanding our place through the eyes of the people that live, work and play in our city, in the hope of guiding us towards a future where hosts and guests share the experience of our place.

The City of Launceston have engaged Destination Think! to undertake an extensive brand development for Launceston. A key part of unearthing our Place DNATM is understanding Launceston from the locals' perspective. Place DNATM is a research methodology that uncovers the truth of a destination and defines what makes it unique based on a range of attributes including culture, geography, climate, natural environment, economy and more.

All members of the community are invited to share ideas and opinions to help us understand what makes Launceston unique. The City of Launceston survey has been designed to help us gain a quantitative assessment of Launceston’s key attributes. The survey will be followed by workshops designed to add a qualitative view of resident perceptions, bringing together members of the community to discuss Launceston and its inner workings: how it is viewed from within and what makes the destination tick.

The data from the survey will remain anonymous and will be analyzed to understand the DNA of Launceston. The results will be summarised as key insights and findings in a Place DNA report that will be presented to the City of Launceston.
