Q. What is Transport Futures?

A. Greater travel options for the people of Launceston

The Launceston City Council has created a long term planning document that sets out the Council's proposals and strategies to deliver a quality, sustainable and integrated transport system - safer roads, walking, cycling and supporting other modes of transport. It aims to deliver a balanced approach to all transport modes through policy and the allocation of financial and human resources. This plan will guide transport policy and future investment decisions. It will ensure funding for transport is allocated to deliver maximum benefits for Launceston, protect our lifestyle and keep our economy strong.

The building blocks of Transport Futures include: Launceston Traffic Study; Launceston Safer Roads Strategy; Launceston Pedestrian Strategy; and Launceston Bike Strategy.

One page summaries of each of these documents have been developed to give an overview of the contents. Full versions of the documents are available and can be downloaded from the document library.

These Strategies sit alongside and influence the Launceston City Heart Project identified in the Greater Launceston Plan.

We welcome your input into these documents. Whether you walk, cycle, catch a bus or drive a truck we'd love to hear from you. It's a great opportunity to have your say on Launceston's first, long term transport plan.

This is your City and your future.............have your say!

CBD bus stops:  Earlier this year businesses in Launceston's CBD asked the Launceston City Council to investigate the possibility of relocating the Metro bus stops in the Central Business District (CBD).  The Council undertook to investigate this request.   A project team was formed which included representatives from the Launceston City Council , Metro, DIER, Cityprom and the Tasmanian Bus Association. A consultant, Pitt & Sherry were engaged to carry out a study - CBD Bus Interchange Study - to identify a preferred option on the best place for bus stops to be located within the CBD.

CBD traffic flow:   Possible changes to the traffic flow in the CBD!  Should through traffic be re-routed around the CBD?  Should there be more pedestrians in the CBD?   Zoom in on the INTERACTIVE MAP, have a look at the possible changes to the traffic flow, have your say!
