This consultation has concluded.
We invite you to have your say about Launceston's Draft Street Tree Strategy 2011.
We have a vision for Launceston and that is for it to be 'a liveable green network with attractive and useable tree lined streets connecting areas of interest for all road and footpath users to safely experience and explore the city.'
A draft strategy has been developed, guided by the Street Tree Advisory Committee so that a strategic approach can be carried out in the future planting of trees in and around Launceston. It is a working document and will be subject to continual review with a major review at the end of ten years.
We would now like to hear from you and invite you to become involved in the future of your city. Have your say on our draft policy. Increasing Launceston's 'green infrastructure' through strategic planting
This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
Launceston is well known for its wonderful gardens, architecture, leafy parks filled with plenty of beautiful trees, plants and green lawns but what where are the street trees? Compared to the trees in our parks, the trees in high profile areas such as the CBD, are fairly small and there are very few avenues!
How do you think we can increase our 'green infrastructure'?

This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
Linkages are corridors that link one area to another such as the Northern Outlet, Tasman Highway, Charles Street. They can be Primary or Secondary.
A node is a place where people gather such as Trevallyn Shopping Centre. They also can be Primary or Secondary.
Have your say on the linkages and nodes we have identified.

The first impression visitors have to our City is the entrance!
This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
One of the entrances, the southern entrance, a major connection to the world via the airport does not introduce our City as it should! We need to ensure that all our entrances are attractive gateways for everyone - the locals, our tourists and visitors to our City. What is your impression on the entrances to our city?

Should there be more 'greening' in the City area?
This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
There are very few trees in the city centre. Currently The Mall, The Avenue and Civic Square are the focus and where most trees are found. We have The Gorge, Princes Square, City Park,Inveresk but where is the green link? This strategy aims at providing connections to these beautiful areas. Have your say on the proposed linkages and nodes for the City area.

We've included a selection method to help decide the species to plant
This online discussion forum has concluded. You can still browse the site but the discussion area will no longer accept new comments or votes.
Individual species for each linkage or node will be determined during the development of each concept plan. Some frost and cold sensitive species are included. Climate change may provide more opportunities to plant these species as well. Our selection method covers the life of the tree, how it will look (will it be too wide, too high, will it fit into the space available), how it adapts to the immediate environment and whether it is deciduous or evergreen.
Tell us your thoughts!
